The Chinese mainland sent one of the two men who were rescued by its coast guard in Fujian back to Kinmen on Friday and is still verifying the other's information, according to a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.

The coast guard in Fujian rescued the two individuals, who were from Taiwan region-administered Kinmen, from a nameless fishing vessel in the waters off Quanzhou's Weitou Bay at around 4 a.m. Monday.

One of them, identified by the surname Hu, is an active-duty member of the military of the Taiwan region, but he did not truthfully disclose his identity and made up false information about his occupation to intentionally conceal it, said Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.

"Relevant departments need to further verify the situation," said Chen.

The other man, identified by the surname Wu, was sent back to Kinmen on Friday, he added.

The spokesperson said the mainland has provided medical assistance and humanitarian care to the two men and helped them contact their families.
