Dominica, a Caribbean island nation, is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and unique culture.
The year 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Dominica. So far, six batches of Chinese medical teams have offered assistance to Dominica with much-needed medical aid and services to local people. The number of patients being treated accounts for approximately one-third of Dominica's total population. Dominica has a land area of 751 square kilometers with a total population of 74,000, and its medical resources are very limited. The China-Dominica Friendship Hospital, constructed with Chinese assistance, is located in the capital city of Roseau. It was originally named Princess Margaret Hospital, but the Dominican government renamed the hospital the China-Dominica Friendship Hospital to show its gratitude to China in September 2019.
The sixth Chinese medical team to Dominica is composed of four doctors from various affiliated hospitals of Southern Medical University, including cardiologists, urologists, ophthalmologists and anesthesiologists. The medical team arrived in Dominica in November 2023 and immediately began working. The team is responsible for outpatient, surgical and teaching work.
