China's Minister of Commerce Wang Wentao met with Apple CEO Tim Cook in Beijing on Friday, according to a statement by the Ministry of Commerce.

The discussion primarily focused on Apple's operations and expansion plans in China, as well as economic and trade exchanges between China and the U.S.

Wang welcomed Apple's continued commitment to deepening its presence in the Chinese market and fostering mutual development, emphasizing the resilience of China's economy.

He highlighted China's accelerated development of innovation-driven new quality productive forces, particularly in high-tech sectors such as artificial intelligence and cloud computing, which present significant opportunities for multinational corporations like Apple. He mentioned China boasts a vast market scale, a well-established industrial system, highly-skilled human resources and a stable and open business environment, all necessary for growing business.

Wang also underscored the importance of Sino-American economic and trade cooperation as a stabilizing force in bilateral relations.

He said China stands ready to work with the United States to create a fair, stable, and predictable environment for bilateral business cooperation.

Cook recognized that China has abundant talent resources and a vibrant innovation ecosystem. He emphasized China's significance as a critical market and key supply chain partner for Apple.

Apple will continue to grow in China, as well as invest in the country's supply chain, research and development, according to Cook.
