The death toll in an attack on concertgoers near Moscow on Friday has risen to 62 people, according to preliminary information, Russia's Baza news outlet reported.

Russian Federal Security Service earlier said at least 40 people were killed and more than 100 injured with dozens in critical condition. 

The Investigative Committee of Russia said a criminal case for the terrorist attack has been opened and all entertainment and mass events in Russia have been cancelled in light of the shooting. 

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, the group said on its telegram channel.
