The Great Buddha Display remains one of the biggest festivals in Tibetan Buddhism. The monks of the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery in Xigaze, Xizang Autonomous Region, have been preparing for the display for months. The embroidery alone took nearly a year. The event lasts for three days, from the 14th to the 16th of the fifth month by the local calendar. A successful Great Buddha Display promises favorable weather, a bountiful harvest, and thriving livestock.
