The first ever "Luoyang VR Project" has become a sensation since its launch by the Chinese streaming firm iQIYI in 2023, attracting many drama fans and digital technology enthusiasts to try the immersive experience. The project blends traditional Chinese culture with modern tourism, utilizing virtual reality and other cutting-edge technologies to pioneer an avant-garde approach to tourism.

The project was set in a metaverse-themed theater spanning about 300 square meters in Shanghai, featuring a replica of the ancient city of Luoyang in Henan Province. The firm created a highly realistic environment using a range of VR technologies, "Inside-out Tracking" technology, original IP-based plot lines, sensory-simulation techniques and other technologies to set up carriages, ships and other props.

Users can have a "time travel" experience with an exciting 60-minute VR-powered journey, traveling back to 1,300 years ago to "visit" the ancient city of Luoyang. Inside the theater, they can play roles in the drama and fully soak themselves up in the story. In addition, players can choose delicate costumes and take photos according to their preferences and interests.
By taking advantage of science and technology, the virtual reality theater relies on the rich cultural resources of Luoyang and restores the magnificent scenery, such as the night view of the ancient city and many other spectacles. The application of virtual reality technology allows tourists to walk in the theater and experience the ancient life of Luoyang, and feel the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture.
As an innovative attempt, this project marks a successful adoption of VR technology to create a brand-new mode of cultural promotion and consumption, drawing the spotlight on the use of modern technology in our daily lives and creating an all-immersive entertainment experience.
