China hopes the Netherlands will ensure normal trade of lithography machines, Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao said.

Wang made the remarks on Wednesday during a meeting with visiting Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation Geoffrey van Leeuwen in Beijing, said the Chinese Ministry of Commerce in a statement on Thursday.

Wang and van Leeuwen had an in-depth exchange of views on the export of lithography machines and ways to strengthen cooperation in the semiconductor industry.

China regards the Netherlands as a reliable economic and trade partner, and hopes that the Netherlands will uphold the spirit of contract, support enterprises in fulfilling their contractual obligations and ensure normal trade of lithography machines, Wang said.

He called for efforts to maintain the stable global semiconductor industrial chain and supply chain, and promote the sustained and healthy development of bilateral economic and trade relations.

On his part, van Leeuwen called China one of the most important trading partners of the Netherlands, and said the Netherlands is ready to continue to be a reliable partner of China.

Dutch export controls do not target any country, and it makes decisions based on independent assessment, and will minimize their impact on the global semiconductor industrial and supply chains in a safe and controllable manner, he said.
