Latvian Foreign Minister Krisjanis Karins announced his resignation on Thursday due to controversy regarding his travel expenses in a previous post, Latvia's public broadcaster LSM reported on Thursday.

Karins said in a brief statement to reporters that he will leave his post as foreign minister on April 10.

Karins, who served as the prime minister of Latvia from 2019 to 2023, has recently been dogged by a scandal about his use of expensive flights during his tenure as the head of government.
