The death toll from consuming supplements with red yeast rice, or beni-koji, produced by Japanese drugmaker Kobayashi Pharmaceutical, has risen to five, Japan's TV Asahi reported on Friday.
Atsushi Osanai, a professor at Waseda University, said, "the issues this time actually undermine everyone's trust in the entire system. We must take measures to protect the health of as many people as possible."
