The inaugural National Data Work Conference, held in Beijing from April 1 to 2, charted a course for China's data-driven future. A significant step forward, the event outlined a comprehensive strategy to bolster data infrastructure, promote data sharing and utilization and cultivate a thriving data ecosystem.
The National Data Administration (NDA), the government agency responsible for overseeing data policy in China, announced plans to propel data market reforms. The initiative is expected to streamline data sharing and utilization mechanisms, striking a balance between public and market interests. It will also explore innovative, data-driven products and services.
The conference underscored the importance of a robust regulatory framework, which includes developing standardized data formats, establishing data security protocols and implementing clear data governance policies.
Recognizing the importance of computing power to support data-driven applications, the conference highlighted the construction of a national integrated computing power network as a top priority.
The NDA acknowledged the need to address regional imbalances in data infrastructure through the network, saying it will consider reusable power and data safety when building the network.
The body also announced the launch of pilot projects for data labeling, a crucial process that prepares data for use by AI algorithms. The NDA said the pilot projects will pave the way for advancements in AI development and application across various sectors.
