Saying "Goodbye Fu Bao," and "I'll miss you" amid rainfall, thousands of South Koreans crowded Everland Resort and its zoo in Yongin to bid farewell to giant panda Fu Bao on a gloomy day.
Fu Bao, the first naturally born panda in South Korea is scheduled to leave on April 3, 2024, and is expected to land in Sichuan Province, southwest China on the same day.
She will spend one month in quarantine at the Shenshuping Base of Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan Province before further relocation.
Under the terms of the giant panda research cooperation program, all giant pandas born overseas should be returned to China before turning four years old. Giant pandas usually enter maturity at around four years old and will become sexually mature.

Fu Bao, dubbed the "top celebrity in South Korea" or "Princess Fu," was born on July 20, 2020, and has gained massive popularity across the country and beyond over the years.

Her mother Hua Ni, nicknamed Ai Bao, and her father Tian Tian, nicknamed Le Bao, arrived in South Korea from China in 2016 on a 15-year lease for a research program, a symbol of the China-South Korea friendship.
The panda family has been very well looked after at Everland Resort. Their keepers' apparent devotion to the animals was spotted by visitors and has been warmly welcomed by netizens from both South Korea and China. Their caring acts are praised and liked on social media platforms.

According to Everland staff members and local news reports, the vehicle taking Fu Bao to the airport is vibration-free, climate-controlled, and features denoised proofing. Fu Bao's keeper Kang Cher-won will be the chaperone accompanying her back to China.

Meanwhile, in China, Fu Bao’s Chinese fans have geared up to show love and support for her return to their country. Large posters have been spotted in Chengdu's downtown pedestrian area.
On Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin at a briefing stated that China welcomes the homecoming of Fu Bao and that they appreciate the meticulous care provided by her South Korean keepers.
Many of Fu Bao's fans in South Korea have made plans to travel to Sichuan to visit her. According to travel agencies, trips customized for panda fans are trending with many having booked tours to Sichuan in June and July.
