A magnitude-7.3 earthquake hit the waters off Hualien County, China's Taiwan region, at 7:58 a.m. at a depth of 12 kilometers on Wednesday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC).  

The Uranus Building on Xuanyuan Road was leaning sharply, trapping several occupants, and many other buildings have been damaged in the Hualien area. CGTN spoke with Deng Zih-yu, director of Hualien County Construction, and Su Jin-huei, captain of the self-improvement unit of Hualien County Fire Department, to learn about the search and rescue operation. Su said that, due to the severe tilt of the Uranus Building, the rescue effort has encountered certain difficulties, and the work is still ongoing.
