Usually performed during festive occasions, the Hengshan waist drum dance and the Lanzhou taiping drum dance are both listed as national level forms of intangible cultural heritage in China. The lively dances have drawn many locals and tourists in Tianshui, northwest China's Gansu Province, as they are staged by professional performers, giving a boost to tourism in the city.
