Over 100 people, including 97 passengers, were saved after a tourist boat they were aboard caught fire in Thailand on Thursday, local media reported.

A boat, sailing from a port in the Surat Thani province to Koh Tao, caught fire about three nautical miles off the coast of the latter, one of the top scuba diving destinations in Thailand.

Some passengers jumped into the sea after the blaze, while local authorities and other vessels helped people evacuate to safety.

Local media said only some passengers have suffered minor discomfort due to smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
