Reinforcement work underway after Taiwan quake severely tilts building

00:41

A 10-story structure called the Uranus Building was tilted over after a magnitude-7.3 earthquake hit China's Taiwan region on Wednesday morning.

The local fire department said that since the building was first hit, the displacement had increased by 5 centimeters by the evening, and the building could collapse due to constant aftershocks. The rescue operation in the building is basically over while the emergency reinforcement works are being carried out, it added.

A total of 48 buildings in Hualien County were damaged after the earthquake, four of them severely.
