Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Friday called on the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to continue to strengthen the construction of border crossings.

Wang, also director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, made his remarks during an inspection tour to Guangxi.

He urged the region to speed up border crossings' construction so as to inject new impetus to the promotion of high-level opening up, to the deepening of China - Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) cooperation, and to the building of a hub where both domestic and international markets can operate conveniently.

Stressing Guangxi is China's southwest border autonomous region as well as China's gateway to ASEAN countries, Wang said Guangxi should actively serve the construction of a China-ASEAN community with a shared future, deeply integrate into the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative and continue to burnish the sterling reputation of the China-ASEAN Expo, and create an international corridor opening to the ASEAN region.

He added Guangxi should strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Vietnam, consolidate the public opinion and social foundation of Sino-Vietnamese friendship and continuously improve cross-border infrastructure connectivity to make greater contributions to the construction of a China-Vietnam community with a shared future that carries strategic significance.
