China's Qingming Festival, which fell on April 4 this year, was a time for paying respects to one's ancestors and the deceased. The traditions of remembering and paying tribute to the departed are preserved in many other countries, like Memorial Day in the U.S. and the Day of the Dead in Mexico.
In this video, youth from Ecuador, Sri Lanka, Mexico, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand studying in Beijing, China, discuss the special days in their cultures that share similar rituals with the Qingming Festival. Mexican student Claudia Vázquez Gárate said, "We go to their graves and give them food – things that they used to like on the Day of the Dead. We think that is a great time to have and spend time with them."
