Nicaragua has formally cut diplomatic relations with Ecuador and accused the country of violating international law. The move comes after Mexico severed ties with Ecuador over a raid on its embassy in Quito.
On Friday, Ecuadorian authorities deployed security forces to the Mexican embassy in Quito and seized former Vice President Jorge Glas, who had been granted political asylum there. Countries across Latin America have condemned Ecuador's actions. Mexico says the arrest is a violation of international law.
Tensions between the two have been rising since earlier in the week when Quito declared Mexican Ambassador Raquel Serur "persona non grata" in response to recent statements by Mexico's president about Ecuador's last elections. CGTN's correspondent Nicolas Suarez has the story.
