The Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction Agreement, better known as the High Seas Treaty, is an international agreement that aims to establish rules and regulations for activities conducted on the high seas. The high seas refers to the open ocean areas beyond territorial waters and exclusive economic zones of any given country. CGTN anchor Li Dongning spoke with Sara Platto, professor of animal behavior and welfare at the College of Life Sciences at Jianghan University. She shares why the High Seas Treaty is significant for protecting marine biodiversity.
