The Southern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) conducted joint naval and air exercises in the South China Sea from April 7 to 8, Senior Colonel Tian Junli, spokesperson for the PLA Southern Theater Command, said in a statement on Tuesday.

The troops of the theater command maintained a high state of alert at all times, resolutely safeguarding national sovereign security and maritime rights and interests, said Tian.
