A rare total solar eclipse where the moon could be seen completely obscuring the sun was seen from Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
It began in the city of Kerrville, Texas, which was in the path of complete totality for the astronomical phenomenon that also gripped the country in other parts such as Missouri, New York and Ohio.
