China 'highly concerned' over EU's discriminatory measures against Chinese firms

China is highly concerned about the discriminatory measures taken by the European Union (EU) against Chinese companies and even industries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said on Wednesday.

Mao made the remarks in response to the EU's recent announcement that it will conduct an investigation into Chinese wind turbine suppliers.

"The world is worried about the rising tendency of protectionism in the EU," Mao said.

The development of China's new energy-related industries is a reflection of multiple advantages in areas such as technology, market and industrial chains, Mao said, adding that the export of related products has made important contributions to the global response to inflation and climate change.

"We hope the EU side will not undermine the efforts to address climate change," she said, noting that protectionism cannot solve problems but will cause lose-lose results.

China urges the EU side to abide by the World Trade Organization rules and market principles, she said, adding that the country will resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.
