China's top legislator Zhao Leji met with Choe Ryong Hae, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the Standing Committee of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), in Pyongyang on Thursday.

Noting that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Zhao, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, said China is willing to work with the DPRK to take the "China-DPRK Friendship Year" as an opportunity to maintain close high-level exchanges, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges to push for the further development of bilateral relations.

Stressing that exchanges between legislative bodies are an important part of China-DPRK relations, Zhao, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, called for more exchanges and cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Hailing the friendship between China and the DPRK, Choe said the DPRK is willing to deepen exchanges and cooperation with China in various areas to push for the continuous development of DPRK-China cooperation.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional affairs, as well as the situation on the Korean Peninsula.
