China urges Canada to respect the facts, abandon ideological biases, and stop hyping up the lies about "Chinese interference" and poisoning China-Canada relations, the Chinese embassy in Canada said on Wednesday.
According to reports, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused China of trying to "meddle in Canadian elections" on Wednesday while attending a public inquiry hearing on "foreign interference."
"China is very dissatisfied with and firmly opposes those remarks," said a spokesperson from the embassy.
China maintains a longstanding policy of non-interference in the internal affairs of other nations and has no interest in interfering in Canada's internal affairs, the spokesperson said, adding that China has made this position clear and serious to the Canadian side on many occasions.
Some politicians in Canada, driven by their own interests, are attempting to target China in the public inquiry, trying to label and cast aspersions on China, said the spokesperson, adding that the testimonies, characterized with terms like "highly likely," "probable" and "suspicious," fail to provide any substantial evidence.
"This once again demonstrates that the so-called foreign interference public inquiry is nothing but a political farce orchestrated by Canada," the spokesperson said.
For a long time, the Canadian side has provoked China on major issues concerning China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, such as China's Taiwan, Xinjiang, Hong Kong, and Xizang, as well as connived and supported various anti-China separatist activities, the spokesperson continued, noting that the Canadian media has openly reported that Canadian security intelligence agencies surveilled Chinese diplomatic missions and personnel in Canada.
"It is quite clear who is interfering in other countries' internal affairs," the spokesperson said.
