The forest coverage in Yunnan reached 55.25 percent in 2023, ranking fourth in the country, according to the provincial forestry and grassland bureau.

In Yunnan, 118,400 square kilometers of land is under ecological protection, of which the key biological protection area accounts for 55.2 percent. Yunnan boasts 362 nature reserves, and 90 percent of the province's typical ecosystems and 80 percent of protected wild species have been effectively safeguarded.
