Located in southwest China, Yunnan Province is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and thriving ecosystems. Thanks to its advantageous natural conditions of abundant plateau mountains and distinct climates, Yunnan is one of the 34 biodiversity hotspots in the world.
The forest coverage in Yunnan reached 55.25 percent in 2023, ranking fourth in the country, according to the provincial forestry and grassland bureau.
Known as the "Animal Kingdom" and "Plant Kingdom," Yunnan is home to 542 protected wild plant species and 386 terrestrial wild animal species. The region is a showcase for environmental protection in China, where scientists and nature lovers are fighting to preserve its rare ecosystems.

In Yunnan, 118,400 square kilometers of land is under ecological protection, of which the key biological protection area accounts for 55.2 percent. Yunnan boasts 362 nature reserves, and 90 percent of the province's typical ecosystems and 80 percent of protected wild species have been effectively safeguarded.
