The pilu hat, an intricately embroidered headwear worn by monk Tang Sanzang in the renowned TV series "Journey to the West," captivated many people's childhood imagination. However, beyond its role as a monk's headwear, this iconic name carries deeper significance as a distinctive architectural element in traditional Chinese buildings. Often found atop Buddhist shrines or adorning royal palaces, the pilu hat symbolizes the intricate fusion of spiritual reverence and architectural grandeur. During a recent visit to an antique furniture restoration workshop, CGTN host Julian Waghann had the privilege of witnessing the restoration of a wooden pilu hat transported from Beijing's Dajue Temple.
