'Meet Napoleon' exhibition ignites French culture frenzy in Beijing

02:29

An exhibition titled "Meet Napoleon: The Disappeared Palaces" is going on at the Meet You Museum in Beijing. It's showcasing 81 antique pieces from the French emperor's three palaces. While Napoleon Bonaparte's name is well-known in China, most people may only be familiar with his political and military achievements. This exhibition, however, shows other facets of his life through a collection of antique furniture, ornaments and sculptures that were removed from the three palaces he lived in before their destruction.

The exhibition features these precious artifacts to re-enact the architecture, painting and decorative arts of France during Napoleon's era. It vividly shows the imperial style of decorative arts. As such, it's a significant cultural event, offering an immersive experience into the life and times of Napoleon Bonaparte and the style of the First French Empire. Supported by Art Exhibitions China, the Embassy of France to China, and China Arts and Entertainment Group, the exhibition is a highlight of the 2024 Franco-Chinese Cultural Tourism Year.
