The Drung people, an ethnic minority group living in the remote mountains of southwest China's Yunnan Province, were not officially recognized until 1952. By 2018, their entire population had been lifted out of poverty, and they wrote a letter to Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, to share their joy.
