Work continues to relieve Panguitch dam pressure

01:04

Work continues to alleviate pressure on the damaged Panguitch dam in Utah after icy water gushed through, endangering 1,800 residents.

Local officials found a crack in the dam's upper portion on April 8 and closed highways, limited lake access and began flood watches for the area. State and local leaders don't think the Panguitch Lake Dam is in imminent danger of breaking but have told residents to be prepared to evacuate if conditions worsen. If a breach occurs, state and local law enforcement will work with the Red Cross to evacuate Panguitch, which sits about ten miles (16 kilometers) downstream from the dam. Large rocks are being trucked in and placed on the downstream side of the dam to support the wall. No rain is forecast until April 13.
