The death toll has risen to 17 after last week's powerful quakes in Hualien County, China's Taiwan region, with two people still missing, local media reported on Saturday.

The rise of the toll came after the remains of two miners were recovered around noon on Saturday.

A magnitude-7.3 earthquake jolted the sea area near Hualien County in Taiwan on the morning of April 3 and was followed by hundreds of aftershocks in the area.
