The head from a carving of the Buddha dating back to the Tang Dynasty (618-907) is among more than 80 artifacts recently discovered in the Leigutai South Cave at Luoyang's Longmen Grottoes. The intact, exquisitely-carved head is believed belonging to the late 7th or early 8th century. This is the first instance of a new discovery being made at a renovated ancient site of central China’s Longmen Grottoes, a fact that is arousing considerable interest online.
