Antigua and Barbuda is best known for the white-sandy beaches and crystal clear waters. But it's more than a renowned tourist destination. Like other small island nations, the country is facing a myriad of challenges and bears the brunt of major global shocks. In this edition of Leaders Talk, CMG's Wang Guan sits down with Gaston Alfonso Browne, the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, to discuss the country's path toward development and modernization despite the existential threat caused by climate change and multiple vulnerabilities. Antigua and Barbuda is one of the first countries in the Eastern Caribbean to establish diplomatic relations with China. Browne notes that China has played an instrumental role in Antigua and Barbuda's economy, especially through the Belt and Road Initiative. He reckons that President Xi Jinping is "the most impactful global leader" and he praises Xi's global initiatives. Rejecting the "debt trap" narrative, he reiterates his country's commitment to the one-China policy.
