For over 800 years, Huizhou's ancient villages have maintained the tradition of producing fish-shaped lanterns. From the 2nd to the 18th day of the lunar New Year, a parade of large fish-shaped lanterns makes its way through the villages, to the accompaniment of drumbeats, while children and visitors carry smaller ones. Amid fireworks and dancing lanterns, people express their hopes and dreams for the coming year.
