Danish rescue services said on Tuesday afternoon that the fire that engulfed Copenhagen's 17th-century former stock exchange was "under control."

"The fire is under control to the extent that we at this moment are dealing with what we call final extinguishing," director of emergency services Jakob Vedsted Andersen told media at a press conference.

A fire ripped through Copenhagen's Old Stock Exchange, one of the Danish capital's most famous landmarks, on Tuesday, engulfing its spire.

Emergency services, employees from the Danish Chamber of Commerce, including its CEO Brian Mikkelsen, and even passersby were seen carrying large paintings away from the building in a race to save historical artifacts from the flames.

Police said there were no reports of injuries, and it was not immediately clear what caused the blaze.
