China, U.S. discuss monetary policy, financial stability in Washington

China and the U.S. held talks on bilateral monetary policy and financial stability during the fourth meeting of the two countries' Financial Working Group in Washington, D.C., China's central bank said on Wednesday.

The two sides held "professional, pragmatic, candid and constructive" exchanges on financial regulatory cooperation, cross-border payment, anti-money laundering, anti-terrorism financing and other issues of concern, the central bank said in a statement.

The meeting also heard reports from technical experts on the financial regulatory frameworks of the two countries. Both sides agreed to continue to maintain communication.

The meeting was co-chaired by People's Bank of China Vice Governor Xuan Changneng and Deputy Under Secretary for International Finance at the U.S. Department of the Treasury Brent Neiman.

China's National Administration of Financial Regulation and China Securities Regulatory Commission, as well as the Federal Reserve, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and other departments attended the meeting.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen also met with the Chinese delegation of the group.
