China on Wednesday denounced the Australian Defense Ministry's claims about China's "coercive tactics," urging the Australian side to form a correct perception of China's strategic intentions.

The remarks were made by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian at a regular press briefing.

On Wednesday, Australia unveiled its first National Defense Strategy, outlining a "fundamentally new approach" to the country's defense to address Australia's most significant strategic risks.

When presenting the new strategy, Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles said, "China has employed coercive tactics in pursuit of its strategic objectives."

In response, Lin reiterated that China is committed to the path of peaceful development, follows a defense policy that is defensive in nature. He said China remains committed to maintaining peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and the world at large and poses no threat to any country.

The spokesperson noted that the current security risks in the Asia-Pacific region mainly come from certain external powers forming exclusive blocs to create confrontation, especially in the South China Sea.

"It is hoped that the Australian side will form a correct perception of China's development and strategic intentions, abandon the Cold War mentality, do more things conducive to maintaining regional peace and stability, and not make an issue out of China," said Lin.
