Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death and disability globally, with 529 million people living with the disease worldwide in 2021, and the number is projected to surpass 1.3 billion within the next 30 years, reflecting an increasing trend across all countries, as published in June 2023 in The Lancet, a world-leading general medical journal.

Camillo Ricordi, a professor at the University of Miami and the inventor of islet cell isolation, told CGTN that over 50 percent of diabetes cases can be prevented through proper healthy nutrition and moderate physical exercise. He also cautioned that prediabetes usually occurs in people who already have some insulin resistance and silent inflammation in their blood.

Check out the clip on what to know about diabetes prevention before the full interview is released on April 19.
