M6.4 earthquake hits southern Japan: JMA

A magnitude-6.4 earthquake jolted southern Japan late on Wednesday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). 

The epicenter of the earthquake was Bungo Channel, a strait separating the Japanese islands of Kyushu and Shikoku, the agency said, adding that no tsunami warning had been issued. 

There have been no immediate reports of any deaths or injuries. 

The earthquake was followed by several aftershocks in the same region, with the strongest magnitude registered at 5.0.
