Is there a possible cure for diabetes? How close are we to the cure?
"I think there is a lot of hope now," said Camillo Ricordi, director emeritus at the Diabetes Research Institute of the University of Miami.
In an interview, Ricordi said a cure is supposed to replace the pancreas's missing function of producing insulin, which is lost with diabetes. However, attaining the goal requires overcoming challenges such as shielding against immune system attacks and ensuring an abundant supply of insulin-producing cells.
Check out the clip about the challenges of finding possible cures for diabetes before the full interview is released on April 19.
