Emergency workers continued rescuing people from flooding in Russia's southwestern Kurgan region on Wednesday. The local emergency department said that more than 600 residential buildings, over 2,300 garden houses and nine roads were flooded in the region. The rescuers added that more than 13,000 people had already been evacuated from the area, and warned that water levels would continue rising for another two days.
Flooding is expected to peak around the Tobol River near the border with Kazakhstan, as officials said waters continued to rise sharply. This year's unusually large amounts of melting ice and snow have swelled rivers, leading to record floods around the Tobol River.
