Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday that China firmly supports Indonesia in playing its role as a major country to strengthen coordination and cooperation between the two sides and resist all kinds of acts that create division and confrontation in the region.

Wang made the remarks during his meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

He congratulated Indonesia on holding a smooth general election, saying the two leaders have reached an important consensus in elevating China-Indonesia relations and jointly leading bilateral relations to enter a new stage of building a community of shared future for mankind.

Wang noted that the Chinese side looks forward to working with the Indonesian side to advance bilateral ties to inherit the past and usher in the future for new development.

Wang said China is willing to carry forward the friendly traditions with Indonesia, consolidate political mutual trust, and set an example of a shared future and unity among developing countries.

China firmly supports Indonesia in pursuing a path that suits its own national conditions and the deepening of practical cooperation between the two countries, Wang said, calling for the establishment of a more just and equitable global governance system.

For his part, Joko said China is an important cooperative partner of Indonesia and that the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries has maintained a sound momentum.

Joko said Indonesia attaches great importance to its relations with China and hopes China will continue to support Indonesia's high-speed railway construction, adding that more Chinese companies are welcome to invest and do business in Indonesia.

The president said China plays an important role in international and regional affairs. Indonesia is willing to work closely with China, adhere to the one-China policy, and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability.

On Thursday, Wang also met with Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto and Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.

Promoting comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights

While meeting with Prabowo, Wang said China has always regarded Indonesia as a priority in its neighborhood diplomacy and a reliable partner in global affairs.

China supports Indonesia in playing a bigger role in international and regional affairs and stands ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Indonesian side to jointly safeguard regional peace and stability, making sure the future of the region always be in its own hands, Wang said.

China is willing to work with Indonesia to build a higher level of strategic mutual trust, a more comprehensive cooperation layout to assist each other's modernization drive, and promote the two countries' comprehensive strategic partnership to new heights, said Wang.

Noting that China has always upheld justice in international and regional affairs and provided assistance to developing countries, Prabowo said strengthening coordination and cooperation between Indonesia and China will have a positive impact on the stability and prosperity of the region and the world.

Upgrading pragmatic cooperation

During a meeting with Retno, Wang called on the two sides to strengthen the synergy of their development strategies, promote the upgrading of pragmatic cooperation under high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and accelerate the building of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Corridor and the "Two Countries, Twin Parks."

China supports its enterprises to invest and do business in Indonesia and stands ready to increase imports of high-quality Indonesian products in line with market demand, Wang said, adding it is hoped that Indonesia will maintain the stability and predictability of its commodity export policy and create a favorable environment for Chinese enterprises.

He also said China is willing to work closely with Indonesia to promote the high-quality development of China-ASEAN relations, consolidate the ASEAN-led regional architecture, and safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.

Retno said Indonesia looks forward to working with China to continuously strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership, enhance economic and investment cooperation, jointly combat transnational crimes, such as telecommunication fraud, and safeguard the region's peace, stability and security.
