The vibrant city of Chengdu, located in southwest China's Sichuan Province, welcomed the 2024 Chengdu-European Cultural Season on Wednesday. The Royal Opera House Orchestra of the Palace of Versailles from France and the Chengdu Symphony Orchestra delivered the opening spectacle. The performance showcased masterpieces by renowned French composers George Handel and Antonio Vivaldi.
In partnership with the French Embassy and Consulates in China and allied art institutions, a series of exhibitions, showcases and other events will grace venues across Sichuan.
This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and France, and the 20th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. In June 1981, Chengdu and Montpellier officially established the first sister city relationship between China and France.
