For over 800 years, Huizhou's ancient villages have maintained the tradition of making fish lanterns. From the second to the eighteenth day of the Chinese New Year, a parade of large fish lanterns makes its way through the villages to the accompaniment of drumbeats, while children and visitors carry smaller ones. Amid the fireworks and dancing lanterns, people express their hopes and dreams for the coming year.
