China has been Gabon's largest trading partner for 11 consecutive years, as the two economies are highly complementary.

Gabon has a high forest coverage rate and its total timber reserves are among the highest in Africa. A number of Chinese companies are engaged in timber processing and trade in Libreville's special economic zone, which strongly supports the country's industrialization process and diversified development strategy.

According to the General Administration of Customs of China, bilateral trade between the two countries reached $3.79 billion in 2023. China mainly imports crude oil, manganese ore and sawn wood from Gabon, and exports mechanical and electrical products, steel and cement.

In addition to economic cooperation, China and Gabon also have close communication on humanitarian assistance and public services. China has sent medical teams to Gabon since 1977. To date, 25 medical teams of 560 medical workers from China have participated in medical aid services to Gabon.
