A seminar marking the 50th anniversary of China-Brazil diplomatic relations was held on April 17-18 in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil.

More than 600 people from the Brazilian government, enterprises, think tanks and the University of Brasilia participated in the seminar titled "50th Anniversary of China-Brazil Diplomatic Relations: Building a Sustainable World through Cooperation."

Geraldo Alckmin, acting President and Minister of Industry of Brazil, attended the seminar and delivered a congratulatory speech. Shi Dan, Zhang Yongsheng, Zhang Haipeng, Chen Xin and Zhou Zhiwei from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences exchanged views with Brazilian experts on low-carbon economy and energy transition, technological innovation and ecological transformation, policies to reduce poverty and eliminate inequality, and global governance.

Alckmin said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Brazil, with fruitful economic and trade cooperation and profound friendship between the two peoples. As China and Brazil are the largest developing countries in the Eastern and Western hemispheres, he noted that strengthening and deepening cooperation in industry, agriculture, energy, global governance and other fields will have a significant bearing on realizing their modernization goals and benefiting their peoples, in better ways.

He added that this seminar focused on development issues, discussing the development experience of Chinese modernization and its significance in the world, which will help deepen the understanding of the Brazilian community about China, tap the potential of bilateral cooperation and bring China-Brazil relations to a new level.

On April 18, experts from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences delivered speeches on the theme of Chinese modernization and its significance in the world, at the University of Brasilia. Shi Dan, Zhang Yongsheng, Zhang Haipeng and Chen Xin shared their views on China's new industrialization and its contribution to world development, Chinese modernization featuring harmonious coexistence between man and nature, China's path to eliminate poverty, the Global Development Initiative and modernization, which aroused warm responses from teachers and students.

The seminar is an important part of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences' efforts to strengthen international academic exchanges and cooperation, including in Latin America, with the aim of telling China's stories well, spreading China's voice, promoting all sectors in Latin America to better understand China, and helping to build a China-Latin America community with a shared future.

The seminar was jointly organized by the Secretariat of the National High-End Think Tank Council of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Institute of Latin American Studies and the School of International Relations of the University of Brasilia.
