There was a time when the "Yundang Fishing Lights" on the Xiamen coast was one of the city's celebrated eight scenic spots. But in the 1970s, a land reclamation project created an urban lake that was no longer connected to the sea and which, over time, became a foul-smelling repository of sewage. The launch of a project to manage Yundang Lake's environment in the 1980s initiated a clean-up that has transformed it into a body of shimmering water that hosts flocks of egrets and other wildlife. This film reveals, through the stories of three "Xiamen natives," how Yundang Lake has become a paragon of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
