A solid majority of Ecuadorian voters on Sunday approved a referendum paving the way for the extradition of organized crime bosses, National Electoral Council president Diana Atamaint said.

Some 65 percent of valid votes were marked "yes" on the matter of extradition, and 35 percent marked "no," according to a quick count of vote results, electoral authorities said in a news conference.

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa has won voter support for a raft of security measures included in the national referendum, but lost an effort to allow hourly work contracts and recognize international arbitrage, according to the quick ballot tally.
