Arne Slot, manager of the Eredivisie's Feyenoord, said on Thursday that he is willing to take over Liverpool, but added that the two clubs are still "in negotiations."

Liverpool will part ways with their incumbent manager Jurgen Klopp at the end of the 2023-24 season. They have multiple names on their recruitment list and Slot is one of them. He was appointed boss of Feyenoord in July 2021 and the club finished 145 games under him by Thursday with 94 wins, 27 draws and 24 losses.

"The only thing I can say about it is that the clubs are in negotiations," Slot told ESPN Netherlands on Thursday. "And then you sit in the waiting room and wait for what will come out. It seems clear to me that I would like to go to Liverpool. Now I'm waiting to see whether the clubs reach an agreement. I'm very confident in that."

Feyenoord was in third place in the Eredivisie table in Slot's first season, the 2021-22 campaign. They won the title in 2022-23, his second season. They will finish as the runners-up this season, which is three games away from wrapping up. He signed a three-year contract extension last year that will last until the end of the 2025-26 season.

"The clubs have to do their job," Slot said. "And then I'm waiting and as the 'main character.' I have to respect that. It will undoubtedly become clear in the coming days. I have the impression that a good offer has already been made and that Feyenoord can make, as it seems, the best-paid transfer for a coach in The Netherlands."

Liverpool took a hard blow this week after losing to Everton 2-0 in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday. As a result, they are now in the third place in the Premier League, two points behind Manchester City which has played one fewer game. Considering how close the title race has been in the English top league this season, that gap may be decisive.
