The so-called overcapacity claim is not a market-defined conclusion, but a man-made false narrative, and it is also another example of U.S. protectionism and suppression of China's development, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

Yang Tao, director-general of the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs at the Foreign Ministry, made the remarks when briefing the media on U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit to China.

What's "excess" is not China's capacity, but the U.S. anxiety, he said.
