China and Peru on Monday agreed to further promote cooperation between China and Latin American and Caribbean countries as Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with visiting Peruvian Foreign Minister Javier Gonzalez-Olaechea Franco in Beijing.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, said that China is willing to work with Peru to implement the important consensus of the two heads of state, carry forward the traditional friendship, and reach high-quality and mutually beneficial cooperation under high-level political mutual trust, pushing their comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.

China stands ready to strengthen the synergy of development strategies with Peru, finish the negotiations on the upgrading of the FTA as soon as possible, expand practical cooperation in various fields, and help Peru's industrialization process, said Wang.

China supports Peru in organizing this year's APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting and is willing to closely coordinate with Peru on major issues such as addressing climate change and implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and to firmly safeguard the common interests of the vast number of developing countries, Wang said.

The Chinese foreign minister urged the two sides to continue to deepen cooperation in the fields of education, culture, tourism, science and technology, and youth.

Gonzalez-Olaechea said the Peruvian side firmly adheres to the one-China principle and is willing to enhance solidarity and mutual trust with China, expand practical cooperation and promote more fruitful results in Peruvian-Chinese relations.

The two sides have made agreement on strengthening communication and coordination on this year's APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting to inject new impetus into Asia-Pacific economic growth.

They also agreed to deepen cooperation in areas such as infrastructure construction, digital economy, health and green development, firmly support each other on issues related to their core interests, and make joint efforts to promote political settlement of international disputes.
